CANA DÀ DAY
(CDD - EH)
And, of course, this inspires
Canadiana's Diana
only one thing:
...but aside from that ~ highlights...
This touching song chronicling one of the saddest aspects of Canada's history was relegated to a mere tiny excerpt
headlining -at least- a medley portion of
Canada Day's Evening Show ---
but doing that totally undermines
the impact of the story it tells,
the tragedy... the heart-wrenching stigma.
The Golden Opportunity to celebrate
the 150th Anniversary of Prince-Edward-Island's
joining the Confederation
was there: with a new and true "supergroup"
6 HEARTS
~ the perfect band for PEI indeed as it is ~
the province that is 6 years off the mark
(having joined the confederation six years later
after everyone else - pretty much!)
so hurray for 6 HEARTS yay -
live from Charlottetown ---
as the story of two of PEI's most beloved
traditional bands is related then, too:
VISHTEN was a trio that lost a member in 2022
when Pastelle Leblanc passed away.
The EASTPOINTERS also lost one of their trio
when Koady Chaisson left this plane of existence.
The surviving members united their efforts
for what they thought was a one-off;
it is meant to last much longer than that
as, per their own admission, when they perform
they feel as though there are six hearts beating
still - not just four...
"We all believe in magic.
We all believe in Miracles."
But back to that medley from earlier now:
"These Ships" was included in that medley, too -
funny... it's an "old tune" by comparison
(video here is from 2015)
so... why include it in 2023's medley?
Blame Melanie...
One of these three LOST IT ALL
(is the one performed in that medley - surely?)
Performed by a nubile super-voiced blondie
that sings it BILINGUALLY too...
Just like Melanie, EH?
Better than Julie Masse en tous cas!
NEXT UP - more of the obvious:
Funny though --- the feminine & bilingual emcee
mentioned that this rater simplistic song
went triple platinum and all...
But there was no credit given to BANX
nor to RANX...???
Very, verrrrrry SUS... But the capper was... DAX:
As if on cue (or, more properly said, taking a cue
from the rapper with existential questions there...)
the bilingual feminine emcee
introduces an act performing from CALGARY
(reminding us that the Albertan metropolis is home
to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame)
a band with the local Flames' colors close to heart:
DEAR ROUGE.
And one must admit it is quite fitting to hear
the charming brunette lead singer of Dear Rouge
belt out a plea such as "GIMME SPIRIT"
so soon after Dax's lamentation "prayer" there...
They had to have a commemorative set in honor of
GORDON LIGHTFOOT who passed away this year:
The lead singer of The Trade Offs (Put'Em Down)
comes back on stage to sing Sundown
(mais avec l'insipide France D'Amour - en français)
though it ends with the classic lyrics:
"sometimes I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winning
when I'm losing again."
Jann Arden performing a heartfelt bit of
"If You Could Read My Mind"
capped off with an equally heartfelt
"we love you Gordon"
ended the concert... perfectly.
The mainstream discovery of the show: Aysanabee
The 156th Canada Day was also, for some reason,
the occasion for a grand return of... Dubmatique.
The bilingual feminine emcee seemed happy about it.
...really not sure who asked for this return...
Still not as bad as having Roxane Bruneau perform TWICE...
But that's another story;
and if anything else was skipped over here,
the whole blamed show should be available here
as it was LIVE from LeBreton Flats Park
in OTTAWA:
Yay ~ PEI!
150.
That's about it.
